What a wonderful excuse to share this song again. Or, it reinforces a belief somewhere in your head that bards aren't good enough to make the cut.
#Pillars of eternity map series#
Those series couldn't be more heavily inspired by Dungeons & Dragons and yet, the poor old bard doesn't get a look-in. There's no bard class in the Divinity: Original Sin series, and in Dragon Age, the whole series, the bard only crops up as playable in Origins as a rogue subclass. Look across RPGs and it's a similar story. And in World of Warcraft, another game I put a lot of time into, bards weren't a playable class at all. They could do a few other things but none as well as the other classes could. In Dark Age of Camelot, which I spent a long time playing, the bard-likes were the speed buff your group needed to get around quickly - that was their purpose. You see, I grew up on bards as interpreted by computer games, and to me, there, they were a forgettable class. Oh the hollowness! Oh the shame! How could I ever have been so empty? Yet, perhaps the fault was not entirely my own. They were, as far as I was concerned - and I can barely bring myself to write it now - padding. But the realisation vexed me, because until that point I'd never had much time for bards. I shouldn't really have been surprised - I was Danny Zuko in my high school production of Grease after all, and then I was Frank n' Furter in stockings and suspenders. Regardless of the decisions that you take towards the end of the Lord of a Barren Land quest, you will be able to explore this location without the necessity to fight any additional battles.I was 38 years old when I realised I was a bard. It is recommended that you explore the hold thoroughly no sooner than towards the end of your stay there. You can get there only by taking certain passages in the hold (map M10). The area with the siege platform and the eastern part of the walls are inaccessible to the party at first. If you intend to fight them, try to lure single opponents away from the rest, or at least first attack those guards that pose the greatest threat to you (mages, archers, Captain of the Guard on the Eastern walls, etc.). Often, guards in the hold come in groups. Other important information in connection with Raedric's Hold You can bypass the enemies (by sneaking or thanks to disguise), or gradually eliminate them. While at the hold, you may be attacked by every living opponent that you encounter, assuming that you enter a place that you aren't allowed to be in. Types of enemies and monsters in Raedric's Hold After you win the battle, plunder the enemy corpses and explore the eastern part of the hold in search of loot. There are quite a few opponents there, commanded by the Captain of the Guard. You can reach the eastern walls from the dungeon (a ladder can be found in one of the underground chambers). You can reach the hold's rooftop only from the sanctuary. To do that, you need to have a party member of high Strength, or own a prybar. To defeat the opponents and gain access to the hold, you require a strong party.Ĭlimbing this wall allows you to reach the upper walls of the hold and, ultimately, get to the sanctuary (one of the hold's levels) To climb the wall, you need to have a party member with Athletics at the level of at least 3, or possess a grappling hook in your inventory.īending the grates allows your party to get to the dungeon, which is one of the hold's levels. There are numerous guards here, with paladin Paladin of Berath and an Archer among them. There are two options to choose from - kill Cletlan and Ludwin or find another way into the hold. Luckily, there are several ways to access the hold, which makes it possible to avoid some of the fighting or all of it. Since the party cannot access the hold, you need take into account that they might be attacked by the guards of the hold if they are spotted. The hold comprises four smaller locations and you have to explore the surface area before you infiltrate it. It is a big location that you visit while completing the Lord of a Barren Land side quest which you receive in Gilded Vale.
